Almost Christmas

Aparantly Movable Type is very easy to spam the comments to entries. So instead of allowing it to continue or trying to ban ip addresses, I have just started disabling comments all together. I even went back to ALL of the old entries and turned off commenting. I started deleting comments, but with something like 1600 comments (about 5 of which are “real”) I just gave up. Its a shame, but since no one reads this page and even fewer people post comments… it doesn’t matter in the long run.

Gallery 2 is moving toward beta releases and it is improving at an exponential rate. It strikes me as possibly the best photo album software available on the internet, not only the free or opensource alternative but the paid ones also. I am looking forward to migrating to it, as well as learning about its layout, theme and module systems.

Another fun thing is MythTV which I started playing with a month or so ago. Initially I tested it on a P3 550mhz w/ 128MB ram and 2 BTTV based tv cards. These are software cards that pretty much suck. The system worked, but of course it was slow and ugly. Later, I got a great deal on 3 Hauppage PVR 250s at CompUSA. They were $150 with a $20 instant rebate and a $50 mail in rebate. That made them $80 each, which was a great deal. I put them into Mary Ann’s computer after installing Gentoo and it works pretty well. It isn’t as mature as something like Tivo, but it has FAR more features and flexibility. I like it :)

I have also quit playing EverQuest. This actually happened about 3 months earlier, but I finally got around to canceling my account. It just isn’t that much fun for me. I tried the World of Warcraft beta… but only for about 3 hours. I did really enjoy the EverQuest II beta and played for a few weeks until it went live. Unfortunatly, my computer’s specs are quite lacking and I don’t want to bother with any games until I can afford to upgrade it. Now that both games are out, there are features about both that I find very compelling. If only Mary Ann will play with me.

Well, its almost Christmas. Hope everyone gets great presents.
