Mary Ann and I visited the animal shelter today and found a dog that we both thought was quite special. He is a fairly modestly sized, 3-6 year old German Shepard which we have renamed from “Taj” (wtf?) to Loki.. Once we got him home, we gave him a bath and cut his nails, which he was very calm during. The next day, we gave him another bath… and somehow he still doesn’t smell quite good. He seems to be happy to be around people and doesn’t have any strong desires to eat the cats.
The bad news is that he had bad diarrhea and so we took him to the vet, where we discovered he had hook worms (intestinal) and heart worms (wonder where they are?). He is already being treated for the intestinal worms, and once his poo firms up he will start the heart worm treatment. The treatment itself involves staying at the vet for 3 days and returning for another visit after about a month or so. It isn’t exactly cheap either, probably running somewhere around $300-$500, depending on how bad it is and how hard he is to work with.
